Experiment
Summary
Scenario simulation with REMO2020-2-iMOVE performed on the EURO-CORDEX domain at 0.11 degree resolution, using MPI-ESM1-2-HR SSP 126 data as lateral boundary conditions for the years 2014-2100, using static land use land cover from the LUCAS LUC dataset Version 1.1. for the year 2015 (https://doi.org/10.26050/WDCC/LUC_hist_EU_v1.1).
REMO-iMOVE includes interactive Mosaic-based VEgetation and plant functional types (PFTs) and is able to simulate interactions between vegetation, soil and atmosphere. The simulation was performed in the scope of the Horizon Europe project OptFor-EU (OPTimising FORest management decisions for a low-carbon, climate resilient future in Europe). The REMO-iMOVE simulation follows strictly the experiment protocol of the international CORDEX Flagship Pilot Study LUCAS and EURO-CORDEX. For the simulation we used resources of the Deutsches Klimarechenzentrum (DKRZ) granted by its Scientific Steering Committee (WLA) under project ID bg1370.
Within OptFor-EU, the simulation provides the future climate projections under SSP 126 scenario conditions simulated with REMO202-2-iMOVE driven by MPI-ESM1-2-HR with a static land use land cover of 2015 for Europe and serves as a reference for the experiment "REMO2020-2-iMOVE-LUC future climate simulation driven by MPI-ESM1-2-HR under SSP 126 scenario conditions and with annual land use land cover change 2015-2100". Within OptFor-EU the data also feeds the development of the OptFor-EU Decision Support Systems (DSS) assisting decision-making on Forest Management Options in different case studies within Europe.
A set of climate indicators as part of the new set of Essential Forest Mitigation Indicators (EFMIs) have been processed for Europe and all OptFor-EU CSAs. EFMIs were identified and developed within OptFor-EU by Linser et al. (2025) to characterize forest ecosystem services, including regional climate regulation, while directly addressing the specific needs of OptFor-EU end-users: https://optforeu.eu/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/OptFor-EU_D1.2_-EFMIs-_v02_20250314_BOKU.pdf
