cops_azep: contains data from Zeppelin NT Aircraft during COPS Campaign

Experiment
Summary
The airship Zeppelin NT was stationed from 2007-07-21 to 2007-07-26 at the airport Baden Airpark. In this time period data were recorded during 9 flights including the two transfer flights from and back to Friedrichshafen.

The main objectives were to investigate
(a) the vertical distribution of reactive trace gases in the planetary boundary layer above the Bienwald (a forest west of Karlsruhe),
(b) the entrainment of trace gases into a convective system (flights into the Murg and Kinzig valley), and
(c) the chemical developement of an air mass downwind of Karlsruhe in a pseudo-lagrangian experiment.

The airship was equipped with numerous chemical and meteorological sensors. Chemical components included mixing ratios of ozone (O3), nitrogen oxides (NO, NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrous acid (HONO), formaldehyde (HCHO), and different speciated volatile organic compounds. Total number concentrations of particles in the size range between 5 and 1000nm were measured. Actinic flux measurements of up- and down-welling radiation were used to obtain photolysis frequency data for different molecules. Meteorological parameters were obtained from sensors mounted on the nose boom of the airship. The data set consists of 3d-wind data, air temperature and relative humidity.

Note: the data format is netcdf, but does not follow strictly the COPS agreements on the file structure and naming of variables. Please contact the data provider (
