Summary
This dataset contains daily-mean output from Ensemble 01 of the UA-ICON Himalayas Gravity Wave Forcing experiment (HI). The experiment features a regional perturbation: the stratospheric component of subgrid-scale orographic gravity wave drag is enhanced tenfold within 25°–45°N, 70°–100°E, representing the Himalayas. This particular ensemble member was initialized using the mean January 1 state from ERA5 reanalysis, averaged over the period 1979 to 2022. The dataset spans 30 years, stored in monthly NetCDF files covering the period from 1990 to 2019. However, the year 1990 is treated as spin-up and excluded from the final analysis, so the valid simulation years are 1991 to 2019. The year labels are arbitrary and intended to represent a generic current-climate scenario rather than actual historical years.

Each NetCDF file contains daily-mean values of key atmospheric variables. The data files follow the naming convention:

uaicon_R02B04_HI_001_Daily_<YYYY>_<MM>.nc

where:
<YYYY> indicates the simulation year (ranging from 1991 to 2019)
<MM> represents the month (from 01 to 12).

The dataset includes the following variables: temperature (temp), zonal wind (u), meridional wind (v), vertical velocity (w), pressure (pres), geometric height at full-level center (z_mc), geopotential (geopot), zonal wind tendency from non-orographic gravity wave drag (ddt_u_gwd), meridional wind tendency from non-orographic gravity wave drag (ddt_v_gwd), zonal wind tendency from sub-scale orographic gravity wave drag (ddt_u_sso), meridional wind tendency from sub-scale orographic gravity wave drag (ddt_v_sso), temperature tendency due to both orographic and non-orographic gravity wave drag (ddt_temp_drag), surface pressure (pres_sfc), and 2-meter air temperature (t_2m).
