Model simulations data used in "The global impact of the transport sectors on the atmospheric aerosol and the resulting climate effects under the SSPs" (Righi et al., 2023)
Global simulations with the EMAC model to quantify the impact of the transport sectors (land transport, shipping, and aviation) on aerosol and climate.
Simulations are performed for present-day (2015) and for two future projections (2030 and 2050) under three scenarios of the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs): SSP1-1.9 (sustainability scenario), SSP2-4.5 (middle-of-the-road scenario) and SSP3-7.0 (regional rivalry scenario).
The transport impacts are estimated by means of the classical perturbation approach, i.e. comparing a reference (REF) simulations with a sensitivity where the emissions from the given sector are set to zero (NOROAD, NOSHIP, NOAIR).
This dataset group includes 30 simulations:
- 7 reference simulations: REF-2015, REF-2030-SSP119, REF-2030-SSP245, REF-2030-SSP370, REF-2050-SSP119, REF-2050-SSP245, REF-2050-SSP370.
- 7 sensitivity simulations without land transport emissions: NOROAD-2015, NOROAD-2030-SSP119, NOROAD-2030-SSP245, NOROAD-2030-SSP370, NOROAD-2050-SSP119,
NOROAD-2050-SSP245, NOROAD-2050-SSP370.
- 7 sensitivity simulations without shipping emissions: NOSHIP-2015, NOSHIP-2030-SSP119, NOSHIP-2030-SSP245, NOSHIP-2030-SSP370, NOSHIP-2050-SSP119, NOSHIP-2050-SSP245, NOSHIP-2050-SSP370.
- 7 sensitivity simulations without aviation emissions: NOAIR-2015, NOAIR-2030-SSP119, NOAIR-2030-SSP245, NOAIR-2030-SSP370, NOAIR-2050-SSP119, NOAIR-2050-SSP245, NOAIR-2050-SSP370.
- 2 more reference simulations for pre-industrial conditions, REF-1750 and REF-1850, which are not part of the assessment but might be useful for future analyses.
All simulations cover a period of 10 years (2006-2015) with nudged meteorology.
