Summary
The Brazil RiskClima Database provides curated climate datasets designed to support the diagnosis, analysis, and projection of climate extremes across South America, with an emphasis on applications for climate risk assessment in Brazil.
This database includes atmospheric indices derived from ERA5 reanalysis and CMIP6 model outputs, supporting the study of extreme events such as heatwaves, drought-related conditions, atmospheric blocking, and South Atlantic Convergence Zone variability. It also provides daily climate variables from selected CMIP6 models over the South American domain, covering historical and future scenario experiments.
In addition, the database includes outputs from two global CESM simulations, Control and GSM, designed to assess climate variability and atmospheric responses associated with a Maunder Minimum event. These simulations complement the ERA5 and CMIP6 products by providing a controlled modeling framework for investigating large-scale climate variability.
The database is distributed in NetCDF4 format, follows CF conventions, and includes standardized units and complete metadata. It is intended to facilitate reproducible research on climate variability, extreme events, and climate risk, while supporting the development of georeferenced climate risk products within the RiskClima project.
The CESM Maunder Minimum experiment is documented at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.eve.2025.100068. The official repository containing the scripts to reproduce the indices and download CMIP6 data is available at https://github.com/lammoc-uff/cnpq-riskclima
