Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement is a marine carbon dioxide removal method that accelerates oceanic CO2 uptake through the addition of alkaline minerals to surface ocean thus helping in reduction of atmospheric CO2 concentration. In this project, we conduct model ensemble simulations using the fully coupled Alfred-Wegener-Institute Earth System Model (AWI-ESM) to evaluate OAE implementation at both the global and subduction regions scale.
Computing resources were provided by the Deutsches Klimarechenzentrum (DKRZ) granted by its Scientific Steering Committee (WLA) under Project ID ba1103. The work received funding by Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany (BMBF) in the framework of RETAKE-B, one of the six research consortia of German Marine Research Alliance (DAM) research mission ‘Marine carbon sinks on decarbonization pathways’ (CDRmare); Grant: 03F0895B.
