Summary
[ Derived from parent entry - See data hierarchy tab ]

This dataset contains MPI-ESM-1.2-LR output from the work package 1 (WP1) HARV scenario of idealized constant global re-/afforestation with extensive wood harvest. The simulation branches from the LAMACLIMA WP1 FRST simulation after 40 simulation years and spans 120 simulation years (2055-01-01 to 2174-12-31), with anthropogenic (trace gases, aerosols, population density) and natural forcings (solar radiation, wildfire, lightning, natural aerosols) held constant at 2014 levels.
In the HARV scenario, wood is harvested from the checkerboard-like 100% forest grid cell pattern after a 40 years period for the forest PFTs for biomass accumulation of the FRST scenario. Harvest rates are held constant for each year and were taken from the year 2100 of the CMIP6 SSP5 RCP8.5 scenario (LUH2 v2e Release (02/22/19) – [http://luh.umd.edu/data.shtml]). All other settings and configurations are the same as in the FRST scenario.
The checkerboard-like pattern, with its homogeneous distribution of changed and unchanged grid cells, allows the application of an established method to separate local and nonlocal biogeophyiscal as well as biogoechemical effects of this land management change (see Winckler et al., 2017 (doi: 10.1175/JCLI-D-16-0067.1), De Hertog et al., 2023 (doi: 10.5194/esd-14-629-2023), and Guo et al., 2025 (doi: 10.5194/esd-16-631-2025)).
However, in MPI-ESM, there is no feedback implemented for this management practice to any atmospheric processes.
