Hindcast simulation with a climate-chemistry-aerosol coupled model ECHAM5-HAMMOZ for the period 1980-2005. The ECHAM5-HAMMOZ model is composed of the climate model ECHAM5 coupled with the aerosol model HAM and the gas phase chemistry of the MOZART model. A coupled sulfur chemistry is included, as well as heterogeneous chemistry and on-line calculation of photolysis reaction rates considering the calculated aerosol and cloud optical depths. More details about the ECHAM5-HAMMOZ model can be find in Pozzoli et al 2008 (JGR). We performed a nudged simulation using the ERA40 reanalysis data (sst, surface pressure, divergence and vorticity). We used the horizontal resolution of T42 (~2.8x~2.8 degrees) and 31 vertical layers (from surface to 10 hPa).
For the emissions we used mainly the RETRO emission inventory, which includes CO, NOx and NMHC anthropogenic and biomass burning emissions. For aerosol we mainly used an inventory provided by Thomas Diehl for SO2, BC and OC. Dust and sea salt emissions are wind driven. The output data conists mainly of 3D monthly mean aerosol and gas concentrations, aerosol optical properties, radiative budget, aerosol forcing, hourly mean surface concentrations of air quality relevant species, O3, CO, NOx, PM2.5.
