Summary
[ Derived from parent entry - See data hierarchy tab ] This dataset contains a subset of the historical reference simulations of the NUKLEUS ensemble, a convection permitting multi-global multi-regional climate model ensemble. More specifically, it contains the data corresponding to the manuscript "NUKLEUS – A first kilometer-scale convection-permitting multi-model climate ensemble for Germany: Characteristics of the historical simulations 1961–1990" (Braun and Ehmele et al., 2026; available as preprint here: https://doi.org/10.5194/egusphere-2026-2517). The three global climate models being dynamically downscaled via an intermediate step with 12km grid spacing over Europe are EC-Earth-Consortium-EC-Earth3-Veg, MIROC-MIROC6, and MPI-M-MPI-ESM1-2-HR. The regional climate models applied for the downscaling are COSMO-CLM (in versions CLMcom-KIT-CCLM-6-0-clm2 and CLMcom-Hereon-CCLM-6-0-clm2), ICON-CLM (CLMcom-BTU-ICON-2-6-5-rc), and REMO (GERICS-REMO2020). A subset of the data was bias corrected using a quantile(-delta) mapping approach following Cannon et al., 2015 using the gridded observational dataset HYRAS-DE (version v5.0; Rauthe et al., 2013; Razafimaharo et al., 2020) provided by Germany’s National Meteorological Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst). The applied subset of the HYRAS-DE v5.0 dataset is available here: https://dx.doi.org/10.35097/gur5c2ujfp2cj5na . Please note that a more recent version of HYRAS-DE is freely available for research at the Open Data Portal of Germany’s National Meteorological Service DWD (https://opendata.dwd.de/climate_environment/CDC/grids_germany/daily/hyras_de/, last access: 6 August 2026). The data is provided on a rotated curvilinear grid covering central Europe (CEU-3) except the bias corrected data, which is provided on a regular latitude-longitude grid (CEU-3i). Both grids have an approximate grid spacing of 3km. Data is provided with different temporal resolution (monthly to hourly) for the following variables: - precipitation (pr) - near-surface air temperature (tas) - daily minimum near-surface air temperature (tasmin) - daily maximum near-surface air temperature (tasmax) - eastward near-surface wind (uas) - northward near-surface wind (vas) For the different temporal resolutions the following data is provided - monthly: tas, tasmin, tasmax, pr - daily: tas, tasmin, tasmax, pr, uas, vas - daily bias corrected: tas, tasmin, tasmax, pr - hourly: tas, pr, uas, vas
