Selected hourly mean atmospheric surface and daily mean oceanic output of the extended seasonal prediction system based on MPI-ESM-HR 1.2.02 (GCFS2.2), ensemble members 1-30 (r1-r30). Hourly output available globally for mean sea-level pressure (psl), surface air temperature (tas), and near-surface wind speed (uas, vas). Daily output available for the North Atlantic for sea-surface height (zos) and 3D ocean potential temperature (thetao).
Hindcasts seSEIKaSIVERAfYYYY, initialized May 1st each year from 1980-2023, and November 1st each year from 1960-2023, running for 24 months (2 years) each. The 30 members are initialized from the weakly coupled GCFS2.2 assimilation, which uses an oceanic ensemble Kalman filter to assimilate oceanic temperature and salinity profiles from EN4 and sea ice concentration from OSI-SAF, and atmospheric spectral nudging to ERA5 sea level pressure, and temperature, divergence, vorticity above 900 hPa. All simulations are run with CMIP6 external forcing. Atmospheric variables (psl, tas, uas, vas) are split into two datasets each, with the first parts containing the 1960-1999 initializations, and the second parts containing the 2000-2023 initializations.
The development of this dataset was supported through funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) through the project METAscales (Grant no. 03F0955B), as well as the northern German states within the scope of the German Marine Research Alliance (DAM) mission mareXtreme.
