For experiments with the MPI-ESM-LR /MR (compared to MPI-ESM-P): dynamic feedback of vegetation and land use on the climate development is fully included, land cover change data are included from external file, orbital parameters are calculated ar every radiation time step.

Hamburg Model of Ocean Carbon Cycle
HAMOCC is a sub-model that simulates biogeochemical tracers in the oceanic water column and in the sediment. All biogeochemical tracers are fully advected and mixed by the hosting OGCM (MPIOM). The biogeochemical model itself is driven by the same radiation as the OGCM to compute photosynthesis. Temperature and salinity are used to calculate various transformation rates and constants e.g., for solubility of carbon dioxide.

JSBACH is the integrated land surface module in atmosphere model ECHAM6
MPIOM
Max - Planck Institute Ocean Model in low resolution
The Max- Planck- Institute ocean model (MPIOM) is the ocean- sea ice component of the Max- Planck- Institute climate model (Roeckner et al., 2006; Jungclaus et al., 2006).
It includes an embedded dynamic/ thermodynamic sea ice model with a viscous- plastic rheology following Hibler (1979) and a bottom boundary layer scheme for the flow across steep topography. A model descriptin can be found at Marsland et al. (2003).
Furthermore the ocean biogeochemical modul HAMOCC is an integrated module of the MPI-OM code, but can run stand alone.

MPIOM is the result of a makeover of MPI-OM. The standard configuration (GR15) has 40 vertical levels, with 20 in the upper 600m. The horizontal resolution gradually varies between a minimum of 12km close to Greenland and 150km in the tropical Pacific.
The model time stepping for tracers and velocity is formulated semi- implicitly with a time step of 4800s.

QN_DRS
The QN_DRS value allows mapping from data files to metadata
being exported from the metadata questionnaire, and contains
the institution name, the model name on which the simulation
was run, the experiment name to which the simulation
conforms, the simulation level base rip value, and finally
the given start year for the simulation. The format of the string will thus be:
institute_model_experiment_rip_startyear. Also note, that in particular cases,
i.e. decadal and noVolc exps, the start date and expdate
may differ - this will occur in those cases where the simulation
start date is 1st january but still refers to an experiment
for the year before. - (see cmip5 experiment design document)
